I found the eggs!!!!!

I went on a quest for eggs. I'd heard a hen making the "I got an egg on the way!!!" sound in the barn so after climbing all over through trees and weeds and wild raspberries (ouch) I checked in the barn. About 10 feet up the hay pile I saw an egg. I climbed up, and found a whole dozen!!!!

If I do the math for when they seemed to stop laying as many eggs it averages out that they haven't dropped production at all, lol.

I didn't think to get pictures before I had Josh (Tiff's boyfriend) get the eggs down for me.

So I marked a few eggs and put them back in the coop (to remind them that they are supposed to spit them out IN THE COOP), closed up the barn, and hopefully they will go back to laying in the coop and not some place else harder to find.

How my day has changed since June 15, 2011.

I got chickens!!! So that adds a whole new list of chores to my day!

I also have a rooster. We were given two but one decided to get territorial against my tiny little myotonic buckling and when he flogged the little guy a second time he turned into dinner. The remaining rooster is just GORGEOUS. I call him Jewels. He is thriving now that the big red rooster is gone.

I get a lovely variety of egg colours.

That was about two days of egg production but their numbers have dropped like crazy in this heat. Same with the doe's milk. It's bumming me out how little milk and eggs I am getting right now. *sad face* I also think the hens are laying some of their eggs in the trees behind the goat pen. Normally by now I have 6 to 8 eggs, and so far i only have TWO. :-(

I really love the chickens. More than I thought I would. Once it cools down some I will get some video of them chasing marshmallows we shoot out of a marshmallow blowgun, lol!

June 15... a day with Pony, Part 5

I think I can wrap this up in this post, hehe.

OK so... where were we? Oh, yeah, we were on our way home. Welcome to beautiful downtown North Branch, lol.

We stopped at our local eatery, The Firehouse Cafe. So named because it is owned and usually frequented by members of the fire department. That riding mower out front? Not for mowing, it's transportation for one of the cafe's usual customers.

It's a tiny little place tucked between two buildings with three tables and a bar.

We like eating at the Firehouse because 1) everyone there knows us and for some weird reason seems to like us and 2) you get a lot of food for cheap. Like I can make three meals out of one wet burrito.

As we headed home I broke a commandment by coveting my neighbors hay. That is like two years worth of hay for me. *makes grabby hands*

Headed back down our dirt road, driving past the cemetery:

Can't forget to check the mail!

The goats were glad to see us home.

Now back home it was time to do some laundry. The dogs decided to help.

Their colour sorting abilities leave much to be desired.

Now it was time to start stripping out the deep litter bedded stalls from over winter.

My garden is gonna love this.

I just have to spread it nice and thick. This is my gourd trellis.

Making more progress.

Now it is time for evening chores! The goats are the reverse of morning chores so i didn't take pictures of that. Brego is looking forward to getting back to the barn.

I had to refill the tank, and he just loves playing with the hose:

After spending some time at the boy's pen my day outside is over and it's time to crash on the couch and read. No pictures of that either, lol.

So that was my day, June 15, 2011.
