I currently have a Troxel Sport and it just feels like it is huge and makes me top heavy. No matter how I adjust it, the thing doesn't seem to fit my head right. Not because it isn't a good helmet. It is. Especially for the minuscule amount of money it cost me. It's just... tall. Or at least it feels that way.
But I am one of those "Every horse, every ride, every time" helmet folks (despite the fact that I broke my rule when i was training the minis to ride *is ashamed*). I need something that doesn't make me feel like a bobble headed doll. And this thing just feels like it is a mile high. Plus it is past it's shelf life. Manufacture date was September of 2001. I'll use it while I work Brego for now but I have GOT to find something better.
I was looking at the Troxel Legacy in blue camo. It would match my coat, lol!
Anyway, if any of you horsie folks have a helmet you like I'd love to hear about it.
And don;t forget, everyone who comments on my posts during the month of april is entered to win in this month's give away!

I've been riding in a GPA for a few years now. I love it, it fits my head well and does not have that "bowl head" look on me. It has good ventilation and is not heavy. My kids each have a black Troxel Spirit helmet. They fit well and are good value helmets for kids who are growing and will need them replaced in a year or two.
ReplyDeleteHelmets are such a personal issue, LOL. The best way to find one is to go to a riding shop and just try a bunch of different ones on. You have to be committed to listen to your inner voice about what looks good and is priced in your budget, not what the salesperson wants to sell you.
Good luck, hope you find a good one!
I personally HATE wearing a helmet - I don't when I ride Bonnie - but I do when I ride Tiara (green broke) and when I ride other peoples horses.
ReplyDeleteBecause I hate helmets I've gone through many looking for the one I could tolerate. I loved the GPA's but out of my price range. I found a Troxel Sierra on sale at a tack store that went outa biz here. Very light and with great ventilation. It has my vote.
Thanks for the input guys!
ReplyDeleteI really don't like wearing a helmet but I feel naked without one, and a few years ago my sister in law's best friend's mom died of a head injury when she fell off her horse so... yeah... better safe than sorry.
my barn buddy Jodie was walking through a pasture a fews ago when a gelding TB charged her and didn't stop. He hit her almost head to head. She was lucky and lived but she will wear the scars for the rest of her life. Now she said she will wear a helmet at all times on the ground and in saddle.
ReplyDeleteIt's an absolute reaffirming that these beasts that we love so much can kill us in a heart beat.
Im just glad to know you wear a helmet. Hope you find one that doesn't make you feel like a bobble head..lol
