How my day has changed since June 15, 2011.

I got chickens!!! So that adds a whole new list of chores to my day!

I also have a rooster. We were given two but one decided to get territorial against my tiny little myotonic buckling and when he flogged the little guy a second time he turned into dinner. The remaining rooster is just GORGEOUS. I call him Jewels. He is thriving now that the big red rooster is gone.

I get a lovely variety of egg colours.

That was about two days of egg production but their numbers have dropped like crazy in this heat. Same with the doe's milk. It's bumming me out how little milk and eggs I am getting right now. *sad face* I also think the hens are laying some of their eggs in the trees behind the goat pen. Normally by now I have 6 to 8 eggs, and so far i only have TWO. :-(

I really love the chickens. More than I thought I would. Once it cools down some I will get some video of them chasing marshmallows we shoot out of a marshmallow blowgun, lol!

  1. Our hens take great delight in finding secret places to lay outside the nesting box... nice to see it might be a world-wide phenomenon!
